The path-dependent magnetizations (polarizations) and susceptibilities indipole- and spin-glasses are described analytically for the standard protocolsof temperature and field variations using the phenomenological Landau-typedescription of multiple metastable states in the nonergodic phases. Theimmediate manifestation of metastable states' multiplicity as staircases ofmagnetizations (polarizations) curves in the temperature cycling experiments isexplained and described. The obtained results are in a reasonable qualitativeagreement with the existing experimental data.
